Allergy-Friendly Oil Pulling Recipe

Oral health has been linked to a number of other important health markers, such as heart disease and brain function.  For singers and those with allergy related post-nasal drip, enhancing oil hygiene can help prevent sore throats as well.

Oil pulling involves swishing and gargling the oil for 5-10 minutes first thing in the morning, before brushing the teeth or eating anything.  I do this while I wait for hot water for my tea to boil and wash my face.

At first I was using just plain grapeseed oil, but found the taste and texture somewhat off-putting.  Since trying this flavoured version, I find myself really looking forward to it!

This is a recipe I put together from what I had around the house.  The ingredients could be swapped out or amounts adjusted according to needs, taste, and convenience.  For example, lots of traditional recipes recommend using coconut oil or sesame oil as the main ingredient, but I am allergic to both of those. Remember to always use the highest quality ingredients you can afford.

Oil Pulling Recipe

  • 90 mL grapeseed oil or avocado oil (I fill my bottle about half of each)
  • 2 drops clove oil
  • 2 drops rose oil
  • 2 drops rosemary oil
  • 5 drops oregano oil
  • 3 pumps of menthol spray
  • 10 drops liquid stevia

Put in a small glass bottle and shake thoroughly before each use.
